Gibby is a good name, I have to say. I love my new last name (I have a classy combo now), but Gibby just has a zip to it that people can’t resist. Because of that, many of my friends over the years have rarely called me anything but Gibby, Gibster, or Gibbz. Some of you might not know, though, that I was also nicknamed Flibby (Flib for short) in highschool. I’ve always been especially fond of Flib, but of course I don’t hear it as much as I used to.
Anyway, I discovered something shocking last night. Not only were flib.blogspot.com and flibby.blogspot.com claimed long ago, BUT THEY HAVEN’T EVER BEEN UPDATED. We’re talking about blogs that were created in 2001, folks. So back when I was a fresh highschool graduate and oblivious to the very existence of blogs, a mysterious Flibby was lurking out there claiming blog names that he or she would never actually use. A tragic waste when there’s a real Flib around.
Fortunately, this discovery ultimately led me to a children’s book that has very possibly changed my life: Mr. Flibby. Luckily for us all, this illustrated book is completely available online if you click here. I recommend reading at least the first few pages, although you’re sure to be riveted until the very end. Having a character named Mr. Flibby is funny enough, but it cracks me up that he also has long floppy arms. I’m happy to report that the similarities end there, although I wouldn’t mind if a crowd chanted “Flibby! Flibby!” at least once during my lifetime.

That was amazing, although a little depressing near the middle when he wept until he could weep no more. I read it before I read the "flibtips", so I didn't realize I was supposed to read it with 5 other kids and take 30 minutes doing it. Oops! Such a gem, and so good to know the perfect job for a man with long arms is band leader. I'll watch my children closely.
I feel bad for the guy. I think it's cool he has floppy arms though!
