We've got a ballerina in the house!
Madeline started a ballet/tap class last week. She is beyond cute in her black leotard and pink tights, and she is beyond excited to be in a dance class. Last week I spied on her from the doorway, and it was really interesting to see her interact with the teacher and other students. Aside from nursery, this is the very first time that Madeline has attended any type of a class or activity without me by her side. A little strange for both of us, but such a good experience.
During her first class, Madeline was very very reserved, but I could tell she was soaking it all in. It was actually really funny and sweet to watch since I know her inside and out, and I knew exactly what she was thinking and why she was doing what she was doing--or not doing. At one point, all the little girls were standing in a line and the teacher asked each one to say her name. Madeline just looked at her without answering until the teacher moved on. Later she asked the girls to sit down and Madeline stayed standing even while all the other girls were sitting. Obviously this wasn't because she didn't understand the instructions. I was actually impressed that she looked so comfortable doing something different from everyone else, even though it was funny.
Finally the teacher helped her do a few moves, and then she loosened up and was willing to participate. Afterward she gave me a complete play-by-play of the class, including what the teacher said, what the other kids said, and what all the moves were. Without me prompting her, she even told me that she hadn't sat down when the other kids did and why. Basically, she LOVED everything about it and was really excited to do a dance class in our living room the next day.
I peeked in at the end of class today, and I could see that Madeline was doing all the steps right along with the other kids. Once she's even more used to the atmosphere, I'm sure she'll be moving around like crazy.
The arts institute where M has dance classes also has a wonderful playground, and Violet was happy to spend an hour there with me while M was dancing. She's such a delightful little baby and couldn't believe her luck when she saw all of the new toys that were just her size. I'm looking forward to spending that one-on-one time with her every week. She has such a great sense of humor and loves to explore, and it's fun to see what she chooses to do when there's no big sister to follow around.

They're women!
Oh, hooray, these are the pictures I wanted to see! How cute, and what fun for everyone.
"So You Think You Can Dance?" watch out! Love hearing about your adventures. Miss you and your smile, but I'm glad I get to see it in your girls' smiles (especially in their eyes).
Can I prfess "like" for em's comment? thanks for sharing these. Little Violet has such a blondie looking hair. So sweet and so cute and adorable!
there really is nothing quite as cute as a black leotard and pink tights--i love it. and madeline will love it. abigail is in a fairy princess ballet class and it is heaven on earth. and you are SO luck to havea playground outside and near--- we have a hallway and an empty room to entertain Lucy while Abigail dances away.
