Madeline turned four on Wednesday! I've mentioned this before, but seriously . . . I love my girls' birthdays. They are definitely the best days of the year. And Madeline's fourth birthday did not disappoint. When she first woke up, Violet and I went into her room singing "Happy Birthday" and carrying her traditional birthday balloons. Always a magical moment. (And I can't believe she's up to four balloons already!)
After breakfast (apple pie!) we headed down the street to the library for story time. I knew there was no better way to spend her birthday morning than at story time, and it was so much fun. I shared the birthday news with the librarian, so all the kids sang to Madeline and she felt really special the whole time we were there. She also chose to wear an awesome hat to the library, as you can see below.
When we walk home from the library, the girls can never resist climbing up on this little stone ledge to hang out and kick their legs for a minute. The weather was pretty mild on M's birthday, so it was a great day to enjoy the sunshine while we meandered home.
Um, did I mention that Madeline is already FOUR? I realize it's not really such a large age and that she's actually quite a tiny person in most respects, but still. These last four years have flown by. And she's such a delight! So funny and sweet and kind.
Madeline's biggest surprise for the day was that Dave was able to take half the day off and come home at lunchtime. She was so thrilled. And even more thrilled after lunch when she found out that instead of quiet time, she was headed to the museum for a daddy-daughter date! They have an amazing Lego exhibit that Madeline hadn't seen yet, and the two of them spent a few hours having an "adventure" there, as Madeline told me later.
And then I felt like a rock star for making the coolest cupcakes Madeline had ever seen.
And like even more of a rock star for getting her a birthday present that made her do this:
Like I said, one of the best days of the year! Happy birthday to the most darling girl in the world!

Most darling 4 year old anyway. That Violet is a serious contender for cutest! What a wonderful day. Happy Birthday Madeline!
I figure I can call them both the most darling . . .
Happy birthday, Madeline! I have one question: why is she a Subaru? I laughed at that.
I love Mads! She's so old! This just made me so happy. And Violet? Oh my cute.
I also have to comment on Madeline's expressions. Theya re so cute and I can see her silly side so wonderfully! And yes, they are both the cutest girls in the world. If you don't think so send them to Grandma. I think they hung the moon!
I remember when she was born. Wish we lived closer to each other to go to story time together (something our girls have also done on their B-days) and play school together with the cool magnetic/white board. What a great girl and wonderful mom.
Ruth, Dave's dad was messing around with the magnetic letters and he put it there to make Madeline laugh when she saw her present . . . it worked. :) We have a Subaru, so I suppose that's why it's on the brain.
I think it actually says "Madeline is 4" and then "Subaru" is just by itself on the next line.
I love this girl. So glad she loved her birthday! You are super parents.
Too cute! Her face is so much less round, she's getting older.
This looks like the best 4-year-old birthday ever. They're both so cute!
